Today cashmere goats are most commonly herded on the steppes of Mongolia, China, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. 

Large fluctuations in temperature make the best conditions for the goats to grow their soft cashmere fibres. For cashmere goat herders, cashmere is their main source of income. It sustains their traditional nomadic way of life carefully preserved for hundreds of years.
